In Nothing’s Shocking the arresting visuals of eight artists coalesce into an irascible visual tumbleweed of painting, sculpture and textiles at odds with decorum and which revel in content that is considered outré, vulgar or lowbrow. Titled after the debut studio album by Jane’s Addiction, this work goes against the grain aesthetically and conceptually. The artists are a misfit mix of individualists unafraid to stand out. The work is more akin to the Chicago Imagists like The Hairy Who then the “too cool for school” New York School. Featuring post-pop art, found objects, ceramics and quilting, to painting both off-the-cuff and considered, the personal becomes political, with work that resists trends and takes chances.
